Tampa Bay’s Active Chapter
The role of information security executive continues to be redefined as the integration of business and technology as it evolves. While these new positions gain more authority and responsibility, peers must form a collaborative environment to foster knowledge and influence that will shape the profession.
ISSA is the community of choice for international cybersecurity professionals dedicated to advancing individual growth, managing technology risk and protecting critical information and infrastructure.
The Information Systems Security Association (ISSA)® is a not-for-profit, international organization of information security professionals and practitioners. It provides educational forums, publications, and peer interaction opportunities that enhance the knowledge, skill, and professional growth of its members.
ISSA offers you a network of 10,000 colleagues worldwide to support you in managing technology risk and protecting critical information and infrastructure. Enhance your professional stature, expand your peer network and achieve your personal career goals.
Tampa leads the state in high-wage STEM jobs and is quickly becoming a hub for IT companies of all shapes and sizes. The state boasts one of the largest software and computer systems design and integration industries in the U.S. and Tampa has emerged a leader in such specialized areas as cybersecurity and data science. The region is also home to Cyber Florida, a first-of-its-kind, shared resource that aims to make Florida the national leader in the emerging and critical field of cybersecurity.
Tampa Bay ISSA hosts two full day meetings, two half-day meetings, and one or two special events each year. Learning from 2025: What This Year’s Cyber Incidents Teach Us for Stronger Security in 2026
2025 delivered a steady stream of breaches, ransomware events, and disruptive intrusions—and the same patterns showed up again and again. In this session, we’ll look back at the most important incident themes from 2025 and translate them into practical security program improvements you can implement in 2026.
The examples and lessons learned come directly from Security Operations Centers (SOCs) and Incident Response (IR) teams I led over the last year, bringing a real-world, operations-first perspective. We’ll examine attacker techniques, exploited vulnerabilities, and emerging trends, then turn those findings into clear actions to strengthen prevention, improve detection, and accelerate response—especially where many programs still struggle: the human element.
